ABOUT US
Wells Beef Shorthorn Stud is situated at Greendale 15ks from the beautiful Bega Valley. I (Jenny) together with my husband, Ken, manage the cattle from breeding, quality control, calving and stud management.

The stud was founded in 2012, purchasing our first bulls and heifers from Royalla and Moombi Shorthorns in Cumnock NSW.
The decision to choose the Beef Shorthorns, came from the need to select a breed that would complement our first love of Belgian Blue cross cows, sired by our pure bred Belgian Blue bull. The traits we needed were; fats, calving ease, do ability, with early maturing, easy doing calves.
The first calving produced the calves that gave us the softness that the Belgian Blue lacked. Strong sensible, well put together calves that outperformed others. With dress out of 60 to 66%. In addition, we have a strong market for the heifer calved which are highly sort after as breeders.
We have found in our experience, the Beef Shorthorn blends with all other breeds like no other. This provides excellent hybrid vigour. The blend of the Beef Shorthorn with the Belgian Blues results proves, that Black is not always better. Belgian Blue x Beef Shorthorn heifers are available for sale twice yearly. The steers generally sell to trade. Read more about our Belgian Blue X Shorthorn Cattle here.

Once the stud calves started hitting the ground, the next love affair was inevitable. We love the colour, white, roan or red, which suits many commercial farmers. Red Shorthorn Bulls over Angus gives a black calf, white Shorthorn bulls over Hereford gives the popular strawberry roans. The roan, or white or red shorthorns over Charolais gives caramel, brown and white, or white if you use a white shorthorn bull.
The result is soft, early maturing easy doing calves. The Beef Shorthorn gives farmers the choice, where colour is not the priority, it is the result, that is important. Price per kilo. Price per head.

Over the years of developing the stud, we have purchased blood lines, from Royalla, Marellan, Bayview, Spry’s, Bundaleer and Nero. We have sold Bulls to Bega, Kybeyan, Dalgety, Bombala, Kiah, Cobargo, Moruya, Maffra Vic, Glengarry Vic with Heifers sold to Camperdown in Vic.

All our bulls are vaccinated with 7 in 1 Vibrovax, Pestigaurd, Marks min. They are semen tested, and scrotal measured, and scanned for Rib, Rump, EMA, and IMF. Any bulls used within the stud prior to sale are DNA tested. Females are vaccinated and treated with Marks’s min as part of our cattle management program.

At Wells Beef, we are committed to provide quality animals that provide peace of mind for our valued customers.

All our stud cattle are registered with the Australian Shorthorn Society, and data recorded with Shor-gene.
